EAST TAWAS – Except for a heavy snowfall downstate Saturday, Mother Nature cooperated for the most part in the Tawases over the weekend for the 64th annual Perchville USA winter festival.
“It was a huge success,” said Shelley Buresh, co-managing director of the festival sponsoring Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce. “We owe a lot to our volunteers and sponsors. Attendance was down a little bit and the snow hurt us a little, but the sunshine and warmer temperatures made it an enjoyable event.”
While temperatures warmed up for the afternoon activities, by the start of the festival’s 20th annual Chilly Cook-Off the temperature was 18 degrees and snowing. Snow fell nearly throughout the winter festival on Saturday and the area had sunshine for most of the day Sunday.
