Building Trades Career Expo
Houghton Lake, Michigan – The Michigan Works!, Prudenville office in partnership with the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council is hosting aBuilding Trades Career Expo.
On February 17th, Michigan Works! is joining forces with the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council to host a Building Trades Career Expo. The expo will have representatives from different backgrounds to discuss career opportunities and apprenticeships.
“Between growth and replacement workers, it is predicted that there will be 7,300 construction related job openings statewide between 2014 to 2016” according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Short-Term Occupational Employment Projections suggest, “Some of the biggest needs are thought to be Construction Laborers, Electricians, Plumbers, Pipefitters and Steam Fitters, Sheet Metal Workers and Painters, Construction and Maintenance.”
“Skilled trades offer a promising path for many job seekers. Events like this offer a chance to learn about career tracks and local opportunities. Michigan Works! is always looking for ways to help retain and attract good talent for businesses. This Building Trades Career Expo is one more way we partner with industry. Also, we will have staff there explaining the Michigan Works! services for job seekers of all experience levels,” said Mark L. Berdan, Region 7B Consortium Michigan Works! Executive Director.
Held from 1:00pm-7pm at the All Seasons Conference Center, located in Houghton Lake at 9285 W. Houghton Lake Dr., the event will allow candidates from unskilled workers to those with experienced backgrounds find information on career opportunities and apprenticeships. Represented Trades attending include, IBEW (Electrical), BAC (Bricklayers), Roofers, Laborers, Carpenters & Millwrights, Sheet Metal Workers, Iron Workers, Painters & Glaziers, Plumbers & Pipefitters; other trades are expected to be added.
