Alpena Sinkholes, Saloon Ghosts, and the Digital Dome
Alpena Wednesday, November 8 9:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
Sinkholes dot the landscape in and around Alpena with the country’s highest concentration of these geologic wonders. Some are more than 1000’ deep. Sinkholes are created when subsurface layers of anhydrite and gypsum dissolve. We will explore and learn about this unique feature in Michigan. We will have lunch at the famous and historic John A. Lau Saloon, decorated with antiques, old photos, and trophy mounts. We will eat in their private dining Antler Room, hopefully you will hear the local ghost, Agnes. Then, we will travel to Besser Museum where we will go to their brand new, upgraded Digital Dome Planetarium for a show and you will have time to tour the museum exhibits. Price includes bus and driver, lunch, art museum admission and the Digital Dome show.
Registration Deadline: Oct. 23
