Join us at the 68th annual Perchville USA, from Thursday February 1 through Sunday, February 4 for plenty of activities and fun for everyone. Whether you initiate yourself into the polar bear club by jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Huron through a hole in the ice or go the hot and spicy route by sampling the delicious chili at the Perchville Chilly Cook-Off, this winter festival is a guaranteed cure for your cabin fever.

 

Perchville King and Queen: Crowning our royalty is a long tradition of honoring individuals who have given selflessly back to our community. The King and Queen will be crowned at the Coronation Breakfast on Saturday, January 27 and preside over the events Perchville weekend. For the third time, there will also be a Junior King & Queen! Students in 5th, 6th or 7th grade will be nominated by their peers and selected based on character, academic achievement, community service, and leadership.

The Royal Feast: Join us for a Royal Feast to honor Perchville Royalty, past and present!

Chilly Cook-Off: Sample delicious batches of chili from businesses on and along Newman Street. Eat as much as you can and vote on the best! Coozies are available for $6 at Brew Krew, Tawas Bay Insurance Agency, Village Chocolatier, and the Chamber. Hosted by the East Tawas Business Association.

Polar Bear Swim: Take the plunge! For those with enough ice in their veins to face down old man winter, the Polar Bear Swim allows participants to jump through a hole in Tawas Bay into the icy water of Lake Huron. Brave the ice and freezing cold water for bragging rights and a T-shirt you can’t get anywhere else. $20 fee; entrants under 18 must have a parent’s signed permission; no one under 16 is allowed. LOCATION: Register at the trailer at the DNR boat launch (right next to the State Police post on US-23 in East Tawas), or you can register early.

Hospitality Tent: Come out and celebrate Perchville-style with plenty of fun and adult beverages. LOCATION: the hospitality tent will be in the parking lot behind Harbor Park next to the State Dock. Beverage tickets are $3 each and available inside the tent. Perchville button ($5) and photo I.D. required for entry, must be 21. Entertainment on Friday and Saturday to be announced.

Family Tent: Bring children of all ages into the family tent for fun and festive activities, games, and performances Saturday starting at 11:00 am and going until 5:00 pm. So many prizes! Admission is only $2 per child, accompanying adults are free. The family tent will be presided over by the Junior King & Queen and include an outdoor petting zoo, gift giveaways for 3 age groups each hour, a National Guard obstacle course, karaoke, graffiti wall, balloon animals, and performances.

Teen Scavenger Hunt: This event for kids ages 13-18 starts at the Family Tent. Limited to the first twenty 2-person teams (early registration is available) parent or guardian must sign the registration form.

Family-Friendly Murder Mystery Diner: Back by popular demand! This event is perfect for families and others looking for a different type of Perchville event. First come, first served at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Saturday, February 4, make sure to get there early – seating is limited. Doors open at 4:30 and dinner starts at 5:00 with the show starting shortly thereafter. For the cost of a Perchville button (only $5!), everyone will enjoy the fun, interactive who-done-it “Murder at Perchville.” Attendees get their choice of diner-fare: burgers, hot dogs or a perch sandwich in a basket with coleslaw, french fries and a beverage.

Fishing Challenge: Join the fishing fun! Open to children and adults; adults must have a
Perchville button to enter their fish, but there’s no charge for kids under 16. Prizes are awarded Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Family Tent for a wide range of categories for both adult and youth under 16. Don’t miss the delicious free refreshments right before the award ceremony – we’ll also have hot coffee and hot chocolate. Rules are also available at the Chamber office.

Perchville Races: Bring your entire family – there’s something for everyone this year.  Held at Dewey Durant park, there will be lawn mower races, go karts, and the super-popular power wheels demolition derby for 5-9 year olds. Any participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian signature. Demo derby is free, all others are a $5 entry fee; cash purse will be awarded to winners.

Perchville Fish Fry: Make sure to get a plate full of the real thing! Perch dinners with all the fixings will be on the menu at the East Tawas Knights of Columbus Hall on Friday night from 4 pm to 7 pm. Don’t miss a delicious dinner fried to perfection. Hosted by the Knights.

Frozen Chosen: Join us for this annual shooting event. Compete with vintage or any type rifle shot at 100 yards. This will be a military style shooting contest. $10 entry fee paid to the Iosco County Sportsmen’s Club at the event. Proceeds will benefit American Legion Honor Guard.

Bake Sale: Check out all the homemade goodies to fuel you up over the weekend. Held at the Christ Episcopal Church.

Book Sale: The Friends of the East Tawas Library will host a used book sale on Saturday from 10 -3 in the old Branham’s jewelry store on the second block of Newman Street in downtown East Tawas.

Perchville Buttons: Buttons are only $5 and will be available after the holidays in locations all over town or at the Chamber of Commerce. Good for admission into the Hospitality Tent (must be 21), the Coronation Breakfast, the Family Murder Mystery Diner, and the Fishing Challenge. You could also be a winner! Check your button number at participating stores to see if you have a lucky button number – you could win a fantastic prize!

Free Shuttle Service: Free shuttle service on Iosco Transit shuttle bus. Park at one of the stops and ride the bus into Perchville. Runs Saturday from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., see map or signs for stops.
