A steering committee made up of local organizations is proud to announce the inaugural year for the Showcase Iosco business exposition. This event will take place on Thursday, October 13 at the Tawas Area Schools new gymnasium from 4 pm to 8 pm. The entire community is welcome to attend.
“We wanted to create an event that will allow businesses and organizations to show all the members of our community what they do, to truly create value for everyone who comes out and walks through the event,” says Janel Malone, Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce managing director. Organizers say that the trade show style event will be a forum for businesses, non-profit organizations, and civic clubs to present what they do and why.
“We think people will be surprised by the resources, products, and services available to all of us living in this community,” explained Arleen Wood, of the Iosco-Arenac District Library. She continued, “We invite everyone to put this on their calendar, come out, and be a part of an amazing opportunity – it’s a small amount of time that could make your life easier and more successful.”
Showcase Iosco will highlight area business and organizations, but will also provide learning opportunities. Dana McGrew, President of Develop Iosco, said “We are very pleased to offer the added benefit of world-class speakers who will share their insights on very timely issues in our community and our lives; each session is open to anyone with an interest, at absolutely no charge.”
Informational sessions will last between 30 and 45 minutes and are open to businesses, individuals, and even groups who want to organize themselves and attend together. Topics include:
- Broadband Technology Advances & Initiatives for Northern Michigan
- Energy Efficiency and the Future of Energy in Michigan
- Motivating Yourself & Others to Success – Dr. Sherene McHenry
- Business and Personal Security – Master Michael Munyon
Showcase Iosco is now taking registrations for participating businesses and organizations. The cost is only $35 for any type or size business or organization. Each participant will have a professional, draped 10′ x 10′ area to present who they are and what they do. Businesses can explain services, display and even sell products while non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to present their mission and describe their target population, and civic clubs can explain their goals, challenges, and needs. For registration information, visit www.tawas.com, or contact the Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce at 989.362.8643 for more information.
This community event will create multiple intersections between the diverse facets of our community, from business to government, civic organizations to residents, and everyone in between. Each member of our community, no matter what their role or interest, stands to gain and improve through the networking and learning opportunities that will be the keystone of this event.
Showcase Iosco host organizations include the Alcona Health Center, Develop Iosco, Michigan Works!, the Oscoda-AuSable Chamber and the Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce.
