The Iosco Sportsmen's Club was established in 1947 for the purpose of fostering conservation, promoting and educating in the areas of sportsmanship, camaraderie, fairness and safety in all aspects of outdoor sports.
The Club operates two shooting ranges. The Tawas range is located at 1600 N. U.S. 23 at Baldwin Centre. This range offers shooting for rifles, pistols, and muzzle loaders. The range is available between 9:00 am (10:00 am on Sunday) and ½ hour before sunset for Members Only when there is no other shooting scheduled. The Oscoda range is located at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base on Rea Rd. This range offers shooting for 3D archery, rifles, pistols, muzzle loaders, trap, sporting clays and skeet. The ranges are also open to the general public on weekends- check the calendar for details.
The Club sponsors a trapshooting league usually beginning in April and running approximately 14 weeks and ending in early August. A fall trap league starts in September. An indoor pistol league shoots during the winter months. Club facilities are made available to the 4H for teaching kids to shoot safely and to the Michigan State Police, local law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard for training and qualification.
The Club also has an active International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) group that conducts practices and periodic shoots on the pistol range.
Sight-in days are provided to members and the general public for approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of the rifle deer season for a nominal fee.
The Directors meet on the first Wednesday of each month and all members are encouraged to attend. There is a general membership meeting on the first Wednesday of March, June, September and December. This meeting begins with a social hour at 5:00 followed by a potluck dinner at 6:00 pm with the meeting at 7:00 pm. *The Clubhouse is available to rent for meetings, receptions, etc.
