EAST TAWAS – U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee of Michigan’s 5th District met with employees of Tawas Tool Company in East Tawas, Thursday, Feb. 20, during a tour of the business.
Kildee (D-Flint Township) said he included this facility tour during his visit to the area in order to get a more personal grasp on some of the challenges faced by manufacturers in Northeast Michigan.
According to a presentation given by Jeffery Lawton, vice president of the Cutting Tool Group for Star Cutter Company, of which Tawas Tool Company is a subsidiary, some of the difficulties they face include utility rate increases, health care costs, worker compensation costs and unemployment costs, to cite a few examples.
While visiting Tawas Tool, Kildee was given an in-depth tour of the facility, led by Plant Manager Mark Timreck.
