The Tawas Area offers the hunter a variety of hunting opportunities. The Huron National Forest provides thousands of acres of public land with miles of forest roads for access to excellent whitetail deer hunting (both bow hunting and gun hunting) and many streams and upland areas for ruffed grouse, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels and woodcock. Even if you don't get a thing, the walk through the woods on a crisp fall day is worth the trip.
-
Duck and goose hunters will love the hunting on Tawas Lake, a large lake with public access and lots of wild rice. If you prefer open water duck and goose hunting, Tawas Bay is the place to be for bluebills, buffleheads, ringnecks, goldeneyes and occasional redheads and canvasbacks.
-
The Tuttle Marsh impoundment in the Huron National Forest, which was a joint project of the U.S. Forest Service and Ducks Unlimited, among others, also provides excellent hunting opportunities.
-
If you need to sight in your rifle, or practice with your shotgun, the Iosco Sportsmen's Club provides various programs for the public, for a nominal fee.
-
Many area motels offer comfortable lodging at off-season rates, or if you prefer camping, the Tawas Point State Park is open during the hunting season as is the East Tawas City Park and a number of campgrounds in the National Forest.
